Abstract
This study investigates the dynamic behavior of oppositely charged submicron particles attracted toward a pendant DC-charged spherical collector under a non-uniform electric field. A numerical framework is developed to analyze particle trajectories by considering electrostatic, viscous drag, gravitational, and dielectrophoretic forces. The model demonstrates that electrostatic attraction and viscous drag are the dominant forces governing particle motion, whereas gravitational and dielectrophoretic forces have comparatively negligible influence.
Particles located closer to the collector experience stronger electrostatic attraction, higher acceleration, shorter drift times, and enhanced capture probability, while particles farther away experience weaker forces and longer collection times. The study provides detailed insight into the evolution of forces acting on individual particles during transport toward the collector, contributing to a better understanding of charged particle deposition mechanisms in electrostatic scrubbing systems.
